Endorsement

Honorable Judge Patricia Garcia:

“I enthusiastically support and endorse Rosy Meyerowitz as successor to my judicial seat, and I hope you will too.

I have had the pleasure of working with and alongside Rosy for eight years.  Rosy is highly respected for her intelligence, empathy, and strong work ethic. She is an asset to the San Diego Superior Court and has proven her worth.

As the former manager of the Court’s Legal Services Division, she provided invaluable advice and recommendations to the bench on complicated legal issues and policy.

As a San Diego Superior Court Commissioner, she acts as a Judge Pro Tem in her current assignment, presiding over one of the busiest departments with ease, demonstrating grace, dignity, and fairness to all who come before her.

Rosy has an unrivaled understanding of the inner workings of the court and the needs of the public, and she is committed to serving in a fair, impartial, and compassionate manner.

I could not be prouder to endorse Rosy as successor to my seat.  Please join me in supporting and voting for Rosy Meyerowitz for Judge of the San Diego Superior Court, judicial seat 19!”

Commissioner

rosy S. Meyerowitz

As a Commissioner for the San Diego Superior Court, I preside over all limited unlawful detainer cases in San Diego County. In my position as a Commissioner, I act as a Judge Pro Tem every day with an average of 75-105 bench trials set in my department per week, in addition to other hearings. I know what it takes to be a judicial officer because I act in that capacity every day in my current assignment.

Prior to becoming a Commissioner, I worked for seven years for the San Diego Superior Court’s Legal Services Division. In a short time, I worked my way up the ranks to become the Managing Attorney, supervising approximately 46 attorneys. My time working in-house for the court, advising judges and court management behind the scenes was largely responsible for my ability to hit the ground running in my current role as a judicial officer in an extremely busy department.

During my time in-house advising judges of the San Diego Superior Court, I worked on difficult cases, such as death penalty cases. I also assumed my management role during one of the most difficult and unprecedented times in the last few decades - the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic upended so much, including the court system. I served an integral role during my time in management working tirelessly to keep informed of the changes and to advise the Court’s executive team and the Presiding Judge on how best to legally navigate uncharted waters.  In addition, during my time as a manager, I oversaw attorneys in all case-types, including criminal, civil, probate, family, juvenile and advised judges and operation’s management team on a multitude of legal issues.  Therefore, I have knowledge and experience with a wide range of case types.

Prior to joining the court, I spent just shy of three years working as a prosecutor for the San Diego County District Attorney's Office both as a Graduate Law Clerk and Deputy District Attorney. During my time as a prosecutor, I handled a daily workload of 40 to 60 cases and worked in the Major Narcotics Division, the Superior Court Division (which handles general felonies), and the misdemeanor trial team. I conducted 10 jury trials (nine to verdict; one hung jury), 173 preliminary hearings, and countless other daily appearances, including arraignments, bail reviews, motions to suppress evidence, motions to dismiss, probation revocations, motions to withdraw guilty pleas and mental competency hearings. While in law school, I clerked for the California Attorney General's Office, the California Innocence Project, and the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.  While at the Attorney General's Office, I argued four times in front of the Court of Appeal.

Finally, my litigation experience is not limited to criminal.  I spent two years working as a civil litigator in Los Angeles.

In sum, I am uniquely positioned to be elected as a Judge because, currently, I am serving every day as a Judge Pro Tem in my courtroom. In addition, I have experience as a litigator in both criminal and civil law, which makes me an ideal candidate who can be assigned to any department within the court system.

I am absolutely honored to have the support and endorsement of the Honorable Patricia Garcia and so many other judicial officers and I assure you that, if selected, I would continue to work hard to make them and the public proud to have me on the bench.
